File A Complaint

Concerns from members of the public or another allied animal health care professional about a registrant’s practice or conduct, or other concern must be submitted in writing to the Complaint Committee at PO Box 2001, Cochrane, AB T4C 1B8 or via email to RAAHPcanada@gmail.com.

The information submitted must include contact information about the person making the complaint (name, full postal address, telephone number and email address).

Written information must also include the registrant’s name and area of practice, and details of the occurrence or incident (date, names and contact for witnesses and specifics). Give as much information as possible.

All complaints are confidential and reviewed in the order they are received. Our process is designed to ensure fairness to both the complainant and the registrant.

Upon receipt of the written complaint, the Complaint Committee will determine if the complaint has merit based on the following criterion:

  • the practitioner is a current registrant of RAAHP-Canada
  • the complaint pertains to the practitioner’s professional practice
  • the complaint is not vexatious or trivial

The Complaint Committee will acknowledge receipt of the complainant’s letter in writing within 14 business days. If the complaint meets the criterion, the Complaint Committee has the authority to initiate the investigation of the complaint.

The findings of the Complaint Committee may result in any of the following:

  • A decision that the complaint is without merit and is dismissed,
  • Remedial procedures are required to correct deficiencies in clinical abilities or business practice processes,
  • Certificate of registration is suspended,
  • Certificate of registration is revoked.

If the complaint is dismissed without an investigation, you may request a review of the decision. The request for review must be made in writing, clearly indicate the reasons for the review, and must be received by the Complaint Committee within 30 days of receiving notice to dismiss the complaint.  The complaint will be forwarded to the Board and the request for review will be addressed by the Board.
